What to Expect in Therapy

First Contact

A free 20-minute conversation to explore what has brought you here, answer any practical questions, and see whether working together feels like a good fit.

I'll explain session options, fees, and how therapy might look for you.

First Session

Our first session is about creating a sense of safety and understanding what matters most to you right now.

You don't need to tell your whole story or have everything figured out. We'll begin at a pace that feels manageable and work together to understand what support would be most helpful.

Ongoing Work

Therapy is collaborative, relational, and shaped around your individual needs.

My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, drawing on practical tools for grounding, emotional regulation, and rebuilding a sense of stability, alongside space for reflection, understanding, and making sense of your experiences.

We'll regularly review how the work is feeling and adapt our approach as your needs evolve.

Who I Work With

I work with adults who have experienced difficult life events, trauma, loss, or periods of feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected.

Many of the people I support have felt overlooked, misunderstood, or let down by the people, services, or systems that were meant to help them.

I also work with people navigating long-term stress, grief, neurodivergence, disability-related life changes, and questions around identity, belonging, and rebuilding after adversity.

My approach is grounded, relational, and trauma-informed, offering a space for honest conversation, practical support, and a chance to better understand yourself and what you're carrying.

Sessions, Fees & Booking

Session length
Sessions are 50 minutes.

Format
All sessions take place online or by telephone, allowing you to access support from anywhere in the UK.

Fees
Clear, transparent pricing is listed on the Fees & Sessions page. Concessions may be available in some circumstances.

Booking
To begin, you're welcome to arrange a free 20-minute consultation via the Get in Touch page or by email. This gives us a chance to talk about what you need and whether working together feels like the right fit.

Payment details and cancellation information are provided before therapy begins.

Confidentiality & Safety

Confidentiality
What you share in therapy stays between us, except in a small number of legally and ethically defined situations. I'll explain the limits of confidentiality clearly before we begin working together.

Safeguarding
If I become concerned about a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, I have a professional responsibility to take appropriate steps to help keep people safe. Wherever possible, I'll discuss this with you and explain any action I need to take.

Record Keeping
I keep brief clinical notes to support continuity of care, reflective practice, and ethical working. You're welcome to ask questions about how records are kept or used at any time.

Accessibility & Practical Adjustments

All sessions are currently offered online or by telephone. If you need to move around during sessions or adjust how you engage, you're welcome to do so — just let me know either during the initial consultation or in our first session so we can make the space work for you.

Neurodivergent-friendly practice
Sessions can be structured, paced, and adapted to suit sensory, communication, or processing needs.

Lived experience of disability
I work from both professional training and lived experience of disability, and understand that capacity, energy, and needs can change over time. Therapy can be adjusted accordingly.

If you need additional adjustments, extra time, or a different way of working, you're welcome to raise this at any stage.

Professional Support & Supervision

I attend regular clinical supervision in line with the BACP Ethical Framework. This provides a reflective space to ensure safe, ethical, and effective practice and to support the quality of the work offered at Black Sheep Wellbeing.

Quick FAQs

Do I need a diagnosis?
No. You don't need a formal diagnosis to access counselling or to work with me.

How long will therapy take?
That depends on your goals and what feels right for you. Some people benefit from short-term, focused work, while others prefer longer-term therapy.

Is online therapy effective?
Yes. Many people find online counselling to be flexible, accessible, and just as meaningful as meeting in person.

What if I'm unsure?
That's completely okay. The free 20-minute consultation is simply an opportunity to ask questions, talk about what brings you here, and decide whether working together feels like the right fit.

Do I have to talk about trauma straight away?
No. You don't need to tell your whole story. We work safely, steadily, and at a pace that feels manageable for you.

Still unsure? That's okay.

Reaching out doesn't commit you to therapy.

A free 20-minute consultation offers space to ask questions, explore what you need, and decide whether working together feels right for you.
